Salzbergwerk Berchtesgaden

Salt mining in Berchtesgaden has a centuries-long tradition. Mining has been taking place in the tunnel for 500 years. In the visitor mine, right next to the tunnels, you can find out more about salt mining on exciting sightseeing tours. The Berchtesgaden salt mine, which was redesigned in 2007, presents salt mining and its history with modern audiovisual representations, 3D animations and laser shows. Probably the highlights of the tour for young and old are the ride on the visitor mine railway, the two mountain railway slides up to 40 meters long and the raft ride across the underground Spiegelsee.
The tour lasts a good hour. Before and after, you have to allow time to put on the special overalls for underground.
After the tour, we also recommend a visit to the salt shop, where you can find more than just salt for cooking.
